
Ormond was the daughter of Josephine Lab technician and John Ormond (a stockbroker) located in Epsom, Surrey. Ormond is the third of five kids born to her parents. Her first appearances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted attention. She then attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After one year of art school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in 1988. Ormond made her debut appearance on British television's 1989 drama Traffik. It focused on illicit heroin trade between far East and the streets of Europe. Ormond was the heroin-addicted kid of the leading character, an Home Office minister working to fight heroin imports. The role was a hit and received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
