Being initially drawn by the shadows of trees she observed in the grass, she did a lot of exploring a process that does not present the object as a two-dimensional image on canvas. When the objects are alive or perishable like fruit and even people and other objects, they are transformed into paintings of their own. Alexa Meade's work is ephemeral however the photograph remains. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved by combining the two techniques of photographing and painting. This creates an unflattened and two-dimensional photograph. Occasionally, Meade integrates her painted models into the 3D space around them, allowing them to interact within the self-created universe. The distinctions between performance photography, installation and painting is thus broken.
